Replacement Windows and Exterior Doors

If you are like me, you probably never heard of Serious Windows until recently.  The truth be told, my partner and I have been in the window business for many years and we never heard of Serious Windows either. Probably because they had plants only in Sunnyvale, California and

Boulder, Colorado.

So here is a brief history about Serious Windows and how they came to the our side of the country:

October 2008 - Kensington Windows in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania closes putting 150 employees out of work.

December 2008 - Republic Windows in Chicago, Illinois closes just days before Christmas putting about 250 union employees out of work.  The employees stage a 6 day sit-in and refuse to leave the plant until they receive their severance and vacation pay. The workers win, receive their pay and the factory is shuttered.

January 2009 - Serious Windows announces the purchase of the Kensington Window plant and plans to reopen and hire back the workers.

February 2009 - Serious Windows announces the purchase of the Republic Window plant and plans to hire back the UNION workers.

September 2009 - The plot thickens. Cook County Illinois prosecutors allege the sudden closure of Republic Windows was all part of a plot by the company head, Richard Gillman, to loot the business, steal the equipment and set up a new operation in Iowa.  Gillman is arrested and held on $10 million dollars bail.
